Jewellery Care

Everything is strung by hand, so a little care goes a long way.

Wearing

Put jewellery on last, after perfume, sun cream and hair products, and take it off first at the end of the day. Avoid wearing pieces in the sea, the pool or the shower: chlorine and salt dull stones and shorten the life of silk thread.

Stones and pearls

Natural stones vary in hardness. Onyx and jade are tough; pearls and turquoise are softer and mark more easily. Wipe pieces with a soft dry cloth after wearing to remove oils.

Pearls in particular don't like perfume or acid, so they go on last and come off first.

Silver and gold plate

Silver tarnishes, which is normal and reversible. A soft cloth brings it back. Avoid silver polish on strung pieces, since it gets into the thread.

Gold plating wears over time, especially on rings and anything that rubs against clothing. Keep it dry and away from abrasives and it'll last considerably longer.

Acetate

Keep hair pieces away from direct heat and out of hot cars. Wipe with a dry cloth. Acetate softens at high temperatures and won't return to shape.

Storing

Separately, flat, and out of the bathroom. A pouch or a box with compartments stops pieces scratching each other and keeps strands from tangling. Humidity accelerates tarnishing.
